With Halloween right around the corner here is my list of must-see October horror movies to watch. This list is not in order the only order in it is from oldest to newest!

Psycho, 1960
The great Alfred Hitchcock and his masterpiece Psycho is definitely a recommended movie to watch this October Season if you haven’t watched it because you are a new generation type of person this definitely must be a priority to see.

The Exorcist, 1973
The first time I saw The Exorcist was back in the 2000s I was just a kid and I had nightmares for about a week. I was sleeping alone back then but I had to find shelter under my parents’ blankets. There is something about old horror movies that just hit differently.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 1974
As I mentioned previously there is something about old horror movies that made them different and Leatherface is definitely in the mix of those badass horror movies.

Jaws, 1975
Jaws made you afraid of the ocean and sharks. Just imagining that there would be a great white bully out there waiting to flip your boat made everyone scared back then.

The Omen, 1976
I placed the original Omen on this list because the one that came out on 6/6/06 was just a remake of this and not much changed other than “better quality cameras”. If you haven’t seen The Omen definitely watch it, it’s about the antichrist coming into our world.

Carrie, 1976
A Stephen King classic! The king of Horror Mr. Stephen King gave us this book and the movie as it may not have been as frightening as the book is definitely fit for the Halloween season.

Halloween, 1978
One of the greatest Halloween movies out there, at least the originals were really good, everything else just repeats itself. Halloween also has one of the more chilling Theme Songs. Great movie in general and definitely a must-see this Halloween season.

Alien, 1979
The very beginning of the Alien franchise. I can’t say the same for the sequels of this but overall a great first movie. Makes you think about what real aliens might look like and if they will actually lay their offspring inside!

Friday the 13th, 1980
Everybody knows that the 13ths and Fridays don’t mix together but how what was it like when on that specific Friday the 13th of 1980 this movie came out? Definitely an elite Halloween movie Jason Voorhees going out on a killing spree!

The Shining, 1980
Another King of Horror classic from Stephen King. The Shining is one of the greatest movies for Halloween and you never know if you’re in a Hotel all alone with no one to talk to. Would you go crazy?

Poltergeist, 1982
Another movie in which the original version is better than the remake. Poltergeist was definitely a movie that will keep you on your edge and the most frightening fact about the movie is what happened to the cast after making this movie. Do you think it was cursed?

A Nightmare on Elm Street, 1984
This movie definitely gave everybody either nightmares or insomnia. When I was younger even closing my eyes when taking a shower was an impossible task. As I got older I understood that it was just a movie but man oh man did this movie take me some time to get over Freddy Krueger.

The Silence of the Lambs, 1991
Anthony Hopkins gives us a great performance as Dr. Hannibal Lecter a cannibalistic serial killer who helps the FBI catch a serial killer. Not only was it a great movie in my opinion but it was also an Academy Award winner for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress.

Scream, 1996
A good horror movie to watch this season it’s not as great as Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween but Ghost Face gave us a Halloween costume we all wore at least once.

The Sixth Sense, 1999
The famous quote, “I see dead people”. Bruce Willis comes in to show you that he is not just an action movie person he also shows you that he can be in Thriller and Horror movies.

The Ring, 2002
One of the best horror movies of the 2000s. This movie gave everyone chills definitely a must-see this Halloween. Of course, after seeing this be warned you only have seven days.

Paranormal Activity, 2007
The most chilling part about Paranormal Activity is that it can happen to any of us when we find a new home. We never know what has happened in a new house we’re moving into. Do you believe in ghosts?

The Orphanage, 2007
From one of the best directors in the world, Guillermo del Toro. We have a Spanish horror movie that will definitely send chills through your body. Great story and quite creepy. Definitely must watch.

The Conjuring, 2013
The greatest paranormal activities investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren give us some insight into some of the most chilling stories that they ever had in The Conjuring. What makes it, even more, scarier is that it’s based on true events.

Hereditary, 2018
Another movie that is one of the greatest horror films of all time is Hereditary. Why is it so scary, well movies in this genre have forgotten to add realism and this movie definitely adds that aspect to it.
Tell me what you think about the list and comment down below your favorite horror movie!
